Watch the compelling report by Democracy Now! about the conditions in San Francisco. [Joe Wilson appears at 15:33] " It is first and foremost a federal responsibility to make sure all of our people have the basic needs that allow them to thrive, not merely survive. And to evade that responsibility, to shift it to someone else, is not leadership. Right? That is escapism, and that is cowardice. And unfortunately for us, homeless people are victimized by poor decisions at multiple levels in our government." - Joe Wilson Read the entire transcript here. |

Walk With Windy (and Dolly)!
|
For the second year in a row, Community Building Program Manager Windy Click mobilized local residents to march through the Tenderloin neighborhood to City Hall to exercise their right to vote.
More than 80 neighborhood residents, community workers, members of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors, and Hospitality House staff—proudly wearing custom blue t-shirts displaying "Walk With Windy"—participated in this inspiring civic engagement effort. The Tenderloin community has one of the lowest voter participation rates in the City and Windy is hoping to change that by increasing awareness and encouraging neighborhood residents to register to vote and participate in our democracy. "People have died to defend our right to vote," says Windy. Another proud moment was experienced by Hospitality House Bilingual Case Manager Dolly Herrera. After immigrating to America decades ago, Dolly recently became a naturalized citizen, and finally gained the right to vote. Dolly and was extremely excited to cast her first ballot ever at City Hall – with dozens of supporters there to cheer her on! Several community members and Hospitality House staff were so inspired by Windy and Dolly, they all registered to vote – and voted! Democracy in action! |
